Been flying around above the polar circle and tried a little timelapse. It’s very short, but sweet in my opinion.

Oh wow! This looks amazing! Almost looks like you are driving over lava or something, due to how close the ground seems to be

This was at 31000ft or thereabouts. It can look a bit deceiving at night.

This is really cool! Like it’s out of a movie or something.

Cooooool
Can you only see the aurora when it’s near the horizon? Is it too faint otherwise? Or was it running away from you?

No, you can see it right overhead as well. We were flying from Stockholm to a small town just above the arctic circle, and you start to see it after about 20 minutes of flying north at ~500mph. The closer you get, the brighter it gets. The higher up north, the brighter as well usually
Mind you, the naked eye doesn’t see it like this. These were all pictures with 6 second exposure time. To see good colors by eye you need to be somewhere really dark with eyes adjusted to the darkness. Or the activity just has to be really strong.

Thanks, glad you enjoy it. First time trying this and I kinda need to perfect the setup a bit, but so far I’m happy with the outcome as well.
